Pharo Ventures Somaliland

In Somaliland, Pharo Foundation has designed a major project, which will contribute jointly to the country’s water and agricultural development, and centres around the construction of the largest freshwater reservoirs in Somaliland. This reservoir system will unfold over three phases, ultimately capturing up to 12.2 million cubic metres of water. Phase 1 begins with a 2.2 million cubic metre dam, a pilot that lays the groundwork for another two 5 million cubic metre dams.

Ultimately, beyond supporting water management, Pharo Foundation aims to cultivate 2,500 hectares of land through innovative irrigation techniques, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity and food security. Alongside the dams’ provision of water, the farm will produce fodder, as another critical means of addressing the drought. Overall, it estimates that the project will create over 200 direct jobs and thousands of indirect opportunities.
